| SURVIVAL ANALYSIS OF TRAUMATIZED PATIENTS ADMITTED TO EMERGENCY ROOM BY USING ASCOT METHOD |

| ABSTRACT |
|
Traumatic injury provokes serious social problems, and various methods of adjusting for severity of injuries were developed.
In 1974, AIS was developed and it analysed traumatically injured persons and was progressed to ISS.
In 1981, the trauma score was described by Champion et al.
These two scores(ISS, trauma score) and the patient's age are the basis for TRISS method, and This method has been used for means of case identification of trauma patients and Major Trauma Outcome Study. In recent years, ASCOT method was developed to address known limitations of TRISS, and it provides a more precise description of patient physiologic status, injury number, location, and severity than TRISS.
Data were collected by the Kyung Hee University Hospital for trauma patients admitted to the ER between Sept. 1, 1991 and Feb. 29, 1992.
The results were as follows
1 ) Total numbers of patients admitted to ER were 247 persons.
2) Sex ratio of male to female was 3 : 1
3) The most common age of trauma patient was twenties.
4) Probability of survival according to age and sex was similar to each other.
5) The Z value, quantitating the difference in the actual number of deaths and the predicted number of deaths, using ASCOT method was 1.6497.
The authors concluded that real dead patients exceeded the predicted outcome and our patient management as well as application of this method shold be analysed for better outcome.
In conclusion, ASCOT method offers a good approach for evaluating outcome of trauma care and probability of survival of traumatized patients so far.
