ABSTRACT
Glyphosate, the most widely used broad-spectrum, nonselective herbicide, finds applications across various domains. Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN) represents a common cause of acute kidney injury (AKI). In this report, we present a case of ATIN following glyphosate ingestion. A 76-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department after a suicide attempt involving glyphosate ingestion. The patient developed respiratory distress and oliguric AKI. We administered ventilator support and continuous renal replacement therapy. Although respiratory distress improved with conservative treatment, renal function remained severely impaired. Renal biopsy confirmed ATIN with characteristic tubular injuries and inflammatory cell infiltration. Treatment with prednisolone successfully restored renal function without requiring hemodialysis. This case highlights the potential association between glyphosate exposure and ATIN, suggesting the need for further investigation into its nephrotoxic potential.
