| ABSTRACT |
|
Trauma remains the leading cause of death worldwide. The Doctor-Car was introduced to reduce preventable trauma death rate and improve the quality of pre-hospital trauma care. This case report describes a 42-year-old male patient who presented to a local emergency medical center with the return of spontaneous circulation after falling from the third floor. He had multiple rib fractures, pneumothorax, and hemothorax. Despite resuscitation, cardiac arrest recurred because of the continuous bleeding from the chest cavity. At the authors’ urgent request, the regional trauma center dispatched a trauma team via a Doctor-Car. The trauma team successfully stopped the bleeding through a clamshell thoracotomy at the emergency center. Subsequently, the patient was transported by a Doctor-Car to the trauma center for emergency surgery. Unfortunately, the patient eventually died during the operation at the trauma center. This case highlights the potential benefits of using the Doctor-Car and the need for its widespread adoption. |
